It was inevitable. We have kids. We have two boys. We have two somewhat clumsy and adventurous boys. I just didn't think it would happen this soon, at least not to our recently turned 2 year old. Aye! It was a Monday evening and I was in the kitchen getting dinner ready, while the boys played upstairs. Reid has been "stair friendly" for over six months now, so we don't have any baby gates up anymore. Aye! He decided he needed to bring his Thomas the Train ride on toy from the upstairs to the downstairs. I didn't see him start at the top of the stairs, but I saw him at the landing, which is where he landed. I'm assuming he was pulling Thomas behind him and of course it plowed him down the stairs. He made it down 10 stairs. That's a lot. Especially when you're two feet tall. Needless to say there were a lot of tears. Reid of course was scared to death. I was so worried he had a head or brain injury of sorts. Luke was so worried and scared too. It was not fun. I checked him over a few times, especially for head "dents" and pushed on him to see if I could tell if there was internal bleeding (I don't know, I just thought I might be able to tell if there was), and after I got him settled with a snack and ice pack, decided to keep an eye on him. He thankfully didn't have any lethargy or vomiting, so I ruled out head injuries, but he did keep holding his left arm. However, he didn't seem to be in any pain and was still using it to drink with, play with, eat with....so I thought maybe he sprained it. Then when he was getting up off the floor and used that arm to get it, he started crying. He was so sad. I told Ross he needed to go get an x-ray and they were off. Thankfully Ross was happy to take him because I was worried I wouldn't hold up if they had to do anything too painful. They got home an hour later (Thank you Acute Kids Allen!), and he had a broken wrist. Thankfully it's not a bad break, but a fracture. They put him in a little splint (Red, cute, like Reid) and said he would need a cast. 4 days later I took him in and they put on his full arm cast (didn't see that one coming) and we picked maroon. Good thing too, it was just in time to support the Aggies beat the Raiders the next day. Coincidence? I don't think so. He has to wear it for a month and should be able to go cast free after that. All through this I am amazed at what a little trooper he is! He doesn't even act like he has it except when he occasionally points at it and says "boo, boo." Bath time is a little bit of a pain, but not terrible. And we are avoiding sandboxes, but other than that, it's not been too bad. More than anything we are so very, very thankful that was his only injury after such a scary fall. God certainly was watching over him and we remember that often.
"Ain't nothin' gonna slow me down...oh no. I got to keep on movin'!"
