Luke's 1st Day of Kindergarten

One excited 5 year old.
How did we get here?  My sweet 5 pound, 13 ounce baby boy is going to Kindergarten.  In all honesty, we were both ready, as most of his friends started last week, but this mommy's heart crumbled just a little as we officially closed the door on all babyhood/toddlerhood/preschool years.  That leaves a pretty big lump in my throat.
Always the silly face.

Luke and mommy had a special Kindergarten date at Cheesecake Factory (yummy!), and took surveys of each other.

 Here are Luke's answers:
1. Favorite Color: Green
2. Favorite Movie: "Mickey Mouse Villains"
3. Favorite Food: Pasta
4. Favorite toy: Batman castle
5. Favorite Animal: Peacock
When I grow up I want to be a CHEF!

The night before we prayed together for our year, Luke's teacher and then read "The Kissing Hand." (Sniff!)

"Kisses" so we wouldn't miss each other.

We opted for private Kindergarten this year, in hopes that a smaller classroom size would better prepare him and boost his confidence in learning and reading a little more.  He has a great teacher, Mrs. Huckabee, who has taught Kindergarten for 30 years.  She has numerous degrees and certifications under her belt, not to mention a very impressive word of mouth recommendation by several "teacher" friends.   We are very blessed to have Luke in her class this year, and to be at First Baptist Allen.
Also, the schedule seemed a little more appropriate in this mommy's opinion of Kindergarten hours.  He goes Monday - Thursday from 9:30-2:00.  Our big man just doesn't do well at all when he's tired and maxed out and I felt like public Kindergarten would have eaten his lunch, and mine too.
Reid is doing preschool at the same church, which works out nicely, so we only have one drop off.
Brothers are ready to roll!
I love that they're not big enough to not hold hands.
One last hug from Dad before going in.
A brave new world.

He had a great first day.  He was so excited to show me his reading bag and read me two books from it!  He loved having a "lunch room" and his favorite thing he did (besides the playground), was play play-dough.
